Chakras Overview

What are seven main Chakras and why are they an important part of healing?

Originating in India, knowledge of the Chakras were passed down orally by the Aryan people until it was documented between 1500 and 500 BC in a text called the Vedas. The word Chakra means disk, vortex, or wheel and are the energy stations of the body. There are seven main chakras that run along the center line of your body and they have physiological, psychological, and spiritual correspondences and functions. The health of each chakra can influence the health of the neighboring chakras. Just like the cogs that make a clock function, if one cog starts acting a little wonky or gets clogged up, the rest of them will be affected resulting in a malfunction. Each chakra is named for the part of the body or area it governs.

  • Root Chakra (Muladhara) is located at the base of the spine

  • Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) is located between the navel and top of the pelvic bone

  • Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) is located above the navel to the rib cage

  • Heart Chakra (Anahata) is located at your heart

  • Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) is located at your throat

  • Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) is located above and between your physical eyes

  • Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) is located at the top of your head

Chakra Direction, Chakra Balancing and Chakra Clearing

When I perform a Reiki session or a Combination Reiki and Crystal session, I always check chakra heath and work on clearing and balancing them with the aid of Reiki symbols and/or Crystal Energy. While it is possible to use a pendulum to check the direction or robustness of the chakra, I use my hands to sense the energy flow of each chakra.

Chakras that are spinning counter-clockwise (when looking at someone imagine them wearing a flava-flav clock around their neck, and if you’ve too young to know who flava-flav is, just imagine them holding a clock) need cleared and re-directed.

Chakras that have no energy flow or that feel like nothing is moving have a major blockage or wall up around them. I often encounter this with people who have been hurt a great deal and have suppressed emotions in their heart.

Chakras that spin clockwise are a thumbs up, and means that things are going in the right direction.

Chakras that are wonky, wobbly, or oval shaped need cleaned up, no matter which direction they spin.

Physiological, Psychological, and Spiritual Healing

When I detect a disturbance or imbalance in a chakra the next step is to see what it is that is causing this. Many of my clients have been surprised at what I detect. It could be a recent issue or something from long ago. The beauty of Intuitive Healing is that I trust that what comes up in the session is what needs to be addressed. Sometimes it’s a physical trauma from an accident or medical emergency, sometimes it a psychological pattern or childhood trauma, sometimes it’s harm caused from outdated belief systems. The causes can be endless, but that doesn’t mean they have to continue. When you book a session with me, it is a team effort in your healing journey. My hope is that with each session people can become more aware of their own energy systems and in turn, find their own strength in growth and self-healing.

Future posts will talk about what role each chakra plays, stay tuned!
