The Healing Power of Equine Reiki: Transforming Your Horse's Wellbeing

“Sit with animals quietly and they will show you their hearts. Sit with them kindly and they will show you yours.”

— Ramblings of the Claury

Here Sheena is holding a calm energetic space for Tanner and as he comes closer, she offers energy to him.

All animal species have their own body language, but we all communicate with energy.

I had the opportunity to work with a very special client in March of 2024. Tanner, the horse, has been having some digestive issues along with some other ailments and his owners thought some Reiki would help. Working with animals is a little different than working with humans but there are commonalities.

Consent is the first. When humans book a session with me, I ask for consent to connect with your energy and we go on a journey together during the session for your greatest good. With animals, I offer the energy to them and let them come to me, they should never feel trapped or forced into a session. Once they are interested we communicate through energy, intuition and body language.

We can see Tanner in a calm state of relaxation with a lowered head, half closed eyes and ears back. He started yawning shortly after this picture was taken. Reading his relaxed body language I feel the yawning was more tension being released from his body post-session. More video of working with Tanner at the bottom of this page.

How Reiki Can Benefit Horses

Reiki, meaning 'universal life energy', is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan. For horses, Reiki is a powerful yet subtle method of bringing balance to their energy systems. It involves a trained practitioner channeling life energy through their hands to the horse, which can be done at a distance or with a gentle touch. This energy flow can stimulate the horse's natural healing processes, addressing not only physical ailments but also emotional and mental imbalances. Horses, being sensitive creatures, are particularly receptive to the energy transmitted during Reiki sessions. This can lead to improved behavior, increased relaxation, and a stronger bond between the horse and its owner or caregiver. The essence of Reiki healing for horses lies in its capacity to provide a non-invasive, calming, and restorative experience, integral to their overall wellbeing.

Equine Reiki: An Antidote for Stress and Digestive Woes

Horses, like humans, can experience stress, which often manifests in digestive issues. Equine Reiki can play a pivotal role in managing these conditions by promoting relaxation and helping to restore balance to the body's energy. The calming effect of Reiki is beneficial for horses that experience travel stress, which can negatively impact their appetite and digestion. Reiki's energy work can soothe the autonomic nervous system, leading to improved gut function and overall digestive health. Furthermore, for horses that have undergone surgery or medical treatments, Reiki can be an invaluable aid in reducing stress and supporting the healing process. By addressing both the mental and physical aspects of stress and digestive problems, Equine Reiki provides a comprehensive solution that can greatly enhance the quality of life for these sensitive animals.

Reiki for New Horse Mothers: Promoting Calm and Stability

The arrival of a foal is a significant event in the life of a mare, often accompanied by anxiety and stress. Equine Reiki offers a gentle way to support new mothers by fostering a serene environment and promoting an emotional balance. The soothing energy of Reiki can help mares adjust to the demands of motherhood, easing the tension that might otherwise complicate this critical period. This calmness can also have a positive impact on the foal, as stress levels in mothers can directly affect their offspring. By facilitating a peaceful transition for mare and foal, Reiki helps in establishing a stable and nurturing bond between them. The practice of Reiki in this context not only aids in the physical recovery postpartum but also contributes to the overall wellbeing of the mare and her new foal, laying a strong foundation for their future together.

The Comforting Embrace of Reiki for Aging Horses

As horses reach the later stages of their lives, their needs change, and they often require more care and comfort. Reiki offers a significant source of support during this time, providing a sense of peace and pain relief without the need for invasive treatments. The gentle touch of a Reiki practitioner can be deeply soothing for aging horses, helping to relieve the aches and stiffness associated with old age. Moreover, Reiki can be an emotional balm, offering solace as they navigate the challenges of their twilight years. For owners and caregivers, watching a beloved horse age can be difficult. Reiki sessions not only comfort the horse but also provide a shared, serene space for the horse and owner to connect deeply, offering mutual support and reassurance. The compassion extended through Reiki can make the final chapter of a horse's life a more serene and dignified journey.

Reiki For All Animals

Reiki is universal source energy and therefore all God’s creatures can benefit from it. By connecting with the unique energy of each animal, Reiki practitioners can support their innate ability to heal and thrive, fostering a deeper bond between humans and their animal companions.
