Building Your Healing and Wellness Team: Why It's Essential and How to Start
How many times have you felt like you're managing your health all alone—juggling appointments, trying to explain your symptoms to doctors who don't quite get it, wondering if anyone sees the whole picture of what you're experiencing?
Here's what I've learned through my own healing journey and working with clients: wellness isn't meant to be a solo mission. The most profound healing happens when you have a circle of practitioners who see different aspects of your health and actually talk to each other about how to support you.
What a Healing Team Actually Is
Think of your healing team as your personal board of advisors for your wellbeing. It's a group of practitioners—from conventional medicine to energy work—who each bring their own expertise to support different aspects of your health.
Your team might include your primary care doctor, a therapist, a nutritionist, a Reiki practitioner (like me), a massage therapist, or an acupuncturist. The key isn't having a dozen practitioners on speed dial. It's about having the right people who understand how physical symptoms, emotional patterns, and energy blocks all connect.
Why This Matters for Empaths and Sensitive People
If you're an empath or highly sensitive person, you already know that your body speaks in whispers before it starts shouting. That anxious feeling in your gut? It might be related to what you're eating, yes—but it could also be an energetic response to absorbed emotions, a sign that your root chakra needs attention, or even a pattern inherited from your family line.
A single practitioner—no matter how skilled—can't address all of these layers. But when you have a nutritionist helping you identify food sensitivities, a therapist supporting you through boundary work, and an energy practitioner helping you release what isn't yours? That's when real transformation starts to happen.
The same goes for your anxious pets. When your dog's separation anxiety isn't improving with training alone, having a vet who understands behavior, plus an animal Reiki practitioner who can address the energetic component, gives you a much fuller picture of what's going on.
How Multiple Perspectives Create Deeper Healing
When I work with a client who's also seeing a therapist, something powerful happens. The therapist might be helping them process childhood wounds through talk therapy. In our Intuitive Wellness Sessions, we're working with the energetic imprints of those same wounds—the stuck emotions living in their body, the chakra blocks that formed as protection.
These approaches don't compete. They reinforce each other. The client processes faster because they're addressing the issue from multiple angles. They start to see patterns: "Oh, my nutritionist pointed out I crave sugar when I'm stressed, my therapist noticed I people-please in that same situation, and in our session we discovered my solar plexus chakra shuts down when I feel I can't say no."
That's the compound effect. Each practitioner's insight adds to the others, creating a complete picture you couldn't get from just one perspective.
Building Your Team: Start Simple
You don't need to assemble an entire wellness dream team tomorrow. Start with what's most pressing for you right now.
Step 1: Identify Your Main Concern
What's the one thing affecting your daily life most? Chronic pain? Anxiety that won't quit? Digestive issues? Feeling energetically drained? Start there.
Step 2: Get Your Foundation in Place
Most people benefit from having these basics covered:
Primary care doctor: For overall health monitoring and medical concerns
Mental health support: A therapist or counselor you trust
Body-based practitioner: Could be massage, physical therapy, or energy work depending on your needs
Step 3: Add Specialized Support as Needed
Once you have your foundation, you can add practitioners for specific concerns:
Energy practitioner (like me): When you need to address emotional blocks, generational patterns, or spiritual disconnection
Nutritionist: For digestive issues, inflammation, or energy management
Movement specialist: Yoga teacher, personal trainer, or somatic practitioner for body awareness
When to Bring in Energy Work
Here's what I tell potential clients: if you've been working with conventional practitioners and something still feels off—if you're doing "all the right things" but not seeing results, or if you know there's an emotional or spiritual component you can't quite address through talk therapy alone—that's when Intuitive Wellness Sessions can make a real difference.
In our sessions, I help you:
Identify and release energetic blocks that conventional approaches might miss
Work with generational patterns that therapy alone can't fully shift
Strengthen your intuitive connection so you can better advocate for yourself with other practitioners
Ground your empathic sensitivity so it becomes a gift instead of a burden
I'm not replacing your doctor or therapist. I'm adding another layer of support that addresses the energetic dimension of healing.
Making Your Team Work Together
The real magic happens when your practitioners know about each other. You don't need them all in a room together (though that would be cool). But when your therapist knows you're working with an energy practitioner, and your Reiki practitioner understands what you're processing in therapy, everyone can support you more effectively.
I always ask new clients what other support they have in place. If you're working with a therapist on trauma, I'll structure our energy work to complement that process. If you're seeing a doctor for a physical condition, I'll ask what they're monitoring so I can watch for shifts that might be relevant to your medical care.
How to Talk to Your Practitioners
Most practitioners appreciate knowing you have a holistic approach to your health. You can say something like:
"I'm working with a few different practitioners to address this from different angles. I see my therapist for [X], and I'm also working with a Reiki practitioner for the energetic component. Is there anything you'd recommend I share with them, or anything you'd want to know about what we're doing together?"
The Ripple Effect Beyond You
When you heal with proper support, you don't just change your own life. You change the patterns available to your children, your pets, your family system.
I see this with my clients who are parents. When they learn to work with their empathic sensitivity instead of being overwhelmed by it, their kids get to grow up seeing that sensitivity as normal and manageable—not something to hide or fix.
When you learn to identify a blocked chakra and know how to address it, you stop passing down the coping mechanisms your family used (disconnecting from your body, pushing through pain, ignoring intuition). You create new patterns of listening, responding, and getting support when needed.
That's generational wellness. Not perfection passed down, but tools and awareness that make the next generation's path a little easier.
Your Next Step
If you're feeling isolated in your healing journey right now, start by identifying one practitioner who could support your most pressing need. You don't need the whole team assembled before you begin.
For many of my clients, Intuitive Wellness Sessions are their entry point into building a healing team. We work together to identify what's blocking your path, and as patterns emerge, it often becomes clear what other support would be helpful. I'm always happy to suggest other practitioners or modalities that might complement our work.
